@BCUWBB Game Day: Coppin State and Maryland-Eastern Shore

Bethune-Cookman looks to stay atop the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference as it travels to face Coppin State on Saturday and Maryland Eastern Shore  Monday.

A sweep of Delaware State and Howard plus losses by Hampton and Norfolk State have the Lady Wildcats (12-9 overall, 8-1 MEAC) a half-game ahead of Hampton, a game and a half over Norfolk State and two over Howard and Florida A&M.

IF THE MEAC TOURNAMENT WERE TODAY: The Lady Wildcats will be two-time regular season champions and getting ready to face the winner of the 8-9 game in the opening game of the quarterfinals.

B-CU UPDATE: The Lady Wildcats are giving up just 48.1 points and opponents are shooting 27.9 percent from the field in conference play … B-CU is 23rd in the nation in scoring defense (56.6 ppg) and fourth in field goal percentage defense … Kailyn Williams has regained the active career block shots leader spot from Chattanooga's Jasmine Joyner (415-412) but Joyner still has the season lead 98-83 … With UConn's Breanna Stewart behind her, Williams now needs 11 blocks to pass Oregon State's Ruth Hamblin for tenth on the all-time list …. Kendra Cooper is 23rd on the active three-point field goal list with 237 … Emily Williams leads the MEAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.59)

ABOUT COPPIN STATE:  The Eagles (5-17,5-5) have lost their last four, including a 71-52 loss to B-CU on Jan. 9 … Genesis Lucas leads the overall scoring at 12.6 ppg, but Keena Samuels (12.2) is averaging 15.4 during conference play.

ABOUT MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE: The Hawks (9-11,3-6) have won the last two meetings, including the 59-56 decision on Jan. 21. Ciani Byrom is averaging  14.6 ppg and Mariah McCoy 10.3 ppg.
