ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- Sabrina Anguiano threw a one-hit shutout, and Bethune-Cookman erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to post an 8-0 run rule victory over Morgan State in its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament opener Thursday afternoon at Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
The Wildcats (22-31) will face Hampton Thursday at 7 p.m.
Giving up just a fourth-inning single to Audriana Alvarez, Anguiano recorded her fourth career shutout in the tournament. The senior struck out five.
Conference Player and Rookie Of The Year
Ryan Jackson had two hits and drove in two runs for the Wildcats.
The freshman broke open a scoreless tie in the fourth when she tripled to right field and scored when the relay throw went wide.
After Bethune-Cookman chased Morgan State's Amy Begg, the MEAC pitcher of the year with a two-run error and
Iesha Waters' single, the Bears (23-22) were trying to intentionally walk Jackson when she smacked a two-run double to make it 7-0.
Senior
Kaitlin Alamprese followed with a RBI double to score Jackson and envoke the mercy rule.
Kailey Richard also had two hits for Bethune-Cookman.
