The Game
Bethune-Cookman Football will look to earn its first win of the 2017 campaign this weekend as the Wildcats travel to Hammond, Louisiana to face Southland Conference opponent Southeastern Louisiana. BCU is coming off the heels of a 41-13 defeat at 18th-ranked Miami (Fla.) a week ago in Miami Gardens. BCU is returning to the state of Louisiana for the second time in three years, as third-year head coach
Terry Sims earned his first collegiate win as a head coach two seasons ago at Grambling State.
Â
Story Lines
• This weekend's game marks the second of four consecutive away games to begin the 2017 campaign. Dating back to last season, BCU will have played seven consecutive games away from Municipal Stadium before the home opener on Sept. 30 versus MEAC foe Savannah State.
• Bethune-Cookman has never faced a team from the Southland Conference.
• The Bethune-Cookman offense racked up a total of 350 yards last weekend against No. 18 Miami, with the Hurricanes having one of the best defenses in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) as projected by several college football pundits.
• After falling to Miami in 2015, BCU bounced back with a win in the state of Louisiana (at Grambling State) the following week. A similar scenario features this week with BCU traveling to the "Bayou State".
• Redshirt senior wide receiver
Jawill Davis has caught a pass in 22 consecutive games – the longest active streak on the current roster.
Â
Series Notes
• This is the first meeting between Bethune-Cookman and Southeastern Louisiana.
• Bethune-Cookman's last trip to the state of Louisiana was in 2015, with BCU claiming a thrilling 56-53 win over Grambling State.
Â

Â
The Coach
Head Coach

Â
The Weather
Projected temperatures on game day: Daytona Beach – 86/78 (thunderstorms). Hammond, La. – 86/63

#GimmeFive
1. The Wildcats are seeking their first win against a team from the Southland Conference.
2. Bethune-Cookman Head Coach
Terry Sims will be seeking his second win ever in the state of Louisiana.
3. Southeastern Louisiana marks the third opponent all-time for BCU from the "Bayou State", adding to the list of Grambling State and Southern.
4. The Cats had six different players take a carry against Miami, with four gaining positive yards.
5. A total of 10 different players caught a pass against a Miami defense that is projected as one of the best in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for the 2017 season.
Â
A Win Over Southeastern Louisiana Would…
• Give Bethune-Cookman its first win over Southeastern Louisiana in school history.
• Allow the Wildcats just their second win in the state of Louisiana in school history.
• Give BCU its first win over a Southland Conference opponent in school history.
• Be the 487th win all-time in school history.
Â
What's the Word?
• Each team throughout the 2017-18 BCU athletic year will have a word that represents the program.
• The word for BCU Football is "Resurge". The meaning comes from the team and Head Coach
Terry Sims looking for a resurgence in 2017. The team endured an uncharacteristic 4-6 season last year, marking the first losing campaign at Bethune-Cookman since 2009.
Â
Seniors
• A total of 27 seniors dot Bethune-Cookman's roster this season, which is the most in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
• In looking around the league, an average of 22 seniors sits on most rosters while Savannah State has the fewest on its current roster with just 16.
• South Carolina State (25), Hampton (23) and North Carolina A&T (22) boats some of the most behind the Wildcats' roster.
Â
Non-Conference Success
• Since 2000, Bethune-Cookman is 35-13 in regular season, out-of-conference contests, earning notable victories against the likes of Alabama State, FIU (2x) and Tennessee State, respectfully.
• Of the 13 losses in non-conference play, seven have come against teams from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), including Florida State, Miami (4x), North Texas and UCF.
