@BCUvolleyball Match Day: SC State and Savannah State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –  Bethune-Cookman hosts a pair of key Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division matches this weekend, facing South Carolina State at 6 p.m. Friday and Savannah State Sunday at 1 p.m. in Historic Moore Gymnasium.

The Lady Wildcats (8-11 overall, 1-2 MEAC South) are currently in a three-way tie with South Carolina State and Savannah State in fourth in the division. A weekend sweep would put B-CU in a much stronger position to make a run for the division's #1 seed at the conference tournament next month.  Sunday's match wraps up the first half of league play.

B-CU has lost two non-conference matches to FIU and FAU since beating Florida A&M last Friday.

HOME RULES: The Lady Wildcats are undefeated (11-0) in Moore Gym in MEAC play in the Brittany Williams era. They're 15-1 overall, with the lone loss coming to Florida A&M in 2016 when the team played off campus due to renovations.

STREAKS:  B-CU has won its last eight straight with SCSU and leads the all-time series 33-18. The Lady Wildcats are 36-0 vs. Savannah State.

J'NAI'S GRAND: Senior J'nai Higgins became the sixth player in program history to record 1,000 assists last week. She has 1,054, sixth on the all-time list.

STATS AND STUFF: Tynesha Adams is sixth in the MEAC in hitting percentage (.239), while Higgins is eighth in assists (6.47 per set.)  Meraiah Hill (1.15 per set) and Delaine Fulton (1.02) are 1-3 in blocks and Shayla Eugene is seventh in digs (3.46). As a team, B-CU leads the league in digs per set (15.85).

TRIPLE THREAT: Jordan Jefferson, who has 23 career double-doubles, is sixth in kills (3.22 per set), third in digs (413) and sixth in scoring (3.57 per set).

SCOUTING: South Carolina State (1-18,1-2) posted its lone vs. Savannah State two weeks ago week while Savannah State (2-14,1-2) pulled a mild surprise when it beat North Carolina Central last weekend.
