@BCUvolleyball Match Day: Coppin State (MEAC Tournament)

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Bethune-Cookman takes the Southern Division No.  seed to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament as the Lady Wildcats meet Coppin State in the quarterfinals Friday at 8 p.m. on the campus of Howard University.

The Lady Wildcats (15-15) recovered from an 0-2 start in league play to challenge for the No. 1 seed before finishing with a 7-3 mark for the second time in three years.

Friday's winner will face the Howard-North Carolina Central Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday's championship is also slated for an 8 p.m.

BCU fell in the opening round to Hampton last year. The Wildcats met Coppin State in the regular season, taking a 3-0 decision. The two teams last met in the tournament in 2015, and BCU also won that match 3-0 en route to its first-ever championship match appearance.

BCU UPDATE: The Lady Wildcats led the MEAC in blocks per set (2.42) and digs per set (16.40) … Jordan Jefferson, named First-Team All-MEAC, needs 31 kills to become the third player in program history to post 400 in a season; she's already set the season-digs mark (438) … Jefferson is fourth in digs and sixth in kills in the MEAC … Second Team All-MEAC selection Meraiah Hill was the only player in the MEAC with more than 100 total blocks this season … Shayla Eugene needs four digs to reach 400 on the season; she'd pass Normarie Rolon's mark of 397 for that record, but Jordan has claimed that won … Faith Landreneaux is fourth in hitting percentage (.267) and eighth in service aces (.37 per set) … J'nai Higgins is seventh in assists (7.04 per set) … Tynesha Adams hit .298 in league play … Sterling Williamson has been in double-figure kills the last three matches; she also had 13 against Coppin State.

SCOUTING COPPIN: Miajovin Coleman was MEAC Rookie Of The Year…She was fourth in the MEAC in kills with 3.54 per sets … The Eagles were one of the nation's youngest team, but a 12-19 overall mark and 6-4 in Northern Division play.
