STATESBORO, Ga. -- Angel Golden had a career night, but Bethune-Cookman dropped a last-second 77-76 loss to Georgia Southern Sunday at Hanner Field House.
The senior dropped a career-high 32 points, including seven three pointers that was one shy of the school single-game record, had five rebounds, and dished to
Kiana Williams for a go-ahead basket with 8.9 seconds remaining.
However, Georgia Southern's Nakoi Franks sank two free throws with 1.8 seconds remaining to lift the Eagles (2-4) to their first victory over the Lady Wildcats (3-2) in five meetings.
In a game that saw 13 lead changes, BCU saw its 62-55 fourth quarter lead fade as Georgia Southern sank four three-pointers and outrebound the Lady Wildcats 16-3 down the stretch.
Still, BCU kept fighting as Golden made a three-pointer to cut it to 75-74 with 23 seconds left, then made a steal and fed it down court to Williams to give BCU (3-2) a 76-75 lead.
Kindell Fincher had 12 points for BCU, while
Armani Walker had 11 points and five rebounds.
Chasimmie Brown finished with 10 points and five boards.
Georgia Southern got 27 points from Alexis Brown and 17 from Hailey Dias-Allen.
BCU travels to Jacksonville Wednesday.
NOTES: Golden now needs 73 points to reach 1,000 … Ironically, the last BCU 30-point game was
Kendra Cooper's 31 points against Georgia Southern when the teams last met in 2015 … This was the first time BCU has lost in the 16 times Golden has scored 20 or more … Williams had 5 assists and BCU a season-high 18…BCU shot a season-best 46.3 percent from the field also.
