DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Brandon Tabb scored 25 points and was one of four Wildcats in double-figures as Bethune-Cookman stomped North Carolina Central, 99-81, Monday evening at Historic Moore Gymnasium. BCU (14-12, 8-3) shot 51.5% from the field (35-61) and snapped a two-game losing streak in the series to NCCU (12-13, 6-5), and ended a four-game home stand with three wins.
The visitors from Durham, N.C., grabbed an early two-point lead with the first of Raasean Davis' 26 points, but BCU did not wait long to answer en route to a 55-31 lead at halftime. Under first year Head Coach Ryan Ridder, BCU shot 63% in the half and was 7-12 from three.
The lead eventually swelled to an 89-60 advantage with 6:47 remaining in the game, and BCU led for 37:02 of the game.Â
For the fourth consecutive game, BCU dished out more assists than turnovers, as BCU totaled 20 helpers and just nine turnovers. NCCU committed 16 turnovers that led to 22 Wildcat points, and the 'Cats outscored the Eagles on the fast break, 24-12.
Junior Isaiah Bailey had his second 20-point game in a row with 22, five rebounds, and matched a season-high eight assists. It marked the 17th consecutive double-figure scoring game for the Compton, Calif. native. Shawntrez Davis poured in 18 points and seven rebounds, and was matched in the rebounding total by Soufiyane Diakite, who finished with 16 points.
With Savannah State's home win against North Carolina A&T, BCU moves into a tie for second place with NCA&T and remains two games behind SSU. The Wildcats will host both teams on Feb. 24 and 26, respectively.
Up next, the Wildcats venture to Baltimore this weekend beginning with a Saturday, Feb. 17 matchup against Coppin State. The action is set to get underway at 4 p.m.
