Last Look: Bailey's 360 Topped Off A Good Night For @BCUhoops

Wildcats Downed Coppin State 80-60

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Nobody knew exactly what was coming, not even Isaiah Bailey when he was alone on that second half breakaway in Saturday's Bethune-Cookman 80-60 victory over Coppin State.

Head Coach Ryan Ridder and Shawntrez Davis had a pretty good idea, though.

"I saw his eyes light up and I didn't know if it would be a windmill or a 360, but I did know the crowd was in for a treat," Ridder said afterwards.

It was a 360, and a nasty one at that.

"Isaiah HAD to put on a show," Davis said. "A 360 in a game – top ten play right there."

"The dunks on the breaks are always the first thing that comes to my mind," Bailey admitted.

The dunk with 12:42 remaining gave Bethune-Cookman its largest lead of the night at 60-38 and showed how everything was going for a Wildcat team (12-11 overall, 6-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) on a bounce back night after dropping a pair of games at Norfolk State and Hampton.

And while Bailey once again is becoming a viral sensation/Sports Center Top 10 possibility sensation (Saturday's dunk video had 6,100 twitter impressions at noon Sunday), he's also becoming a consistent go-to scorer.

Bailey finished with 22 points – his third 20-point night in MEAC play and fifth overall this season. He's B-CU's second leading scorer behind Brandon Tabb.

"Isaiah is a guy getting used to playing on the Division I level," Ridder said. "You saw flashes during the fall... now it's consistency during the conference."

Bailey's scored in double figures 14 consecutive games.

"If you're a good player, the game becomes easier once it slows down," Bailey said. "The mindset all week was to get a win and get back to Wildcat basketball."

Davis also had 22 points, and with 14 rebounds finished with his ninth double-double in what was agreed as his best showing in conference play.

"When we can have Davis on the floor for 30 minutes, he's one of the most efficient, productive big men in the league," Ridder said.

Davis was 9-13 from the field.

"I've gotten back to the grind that got to the position I am now – rebounding the ball and score when I need to score. The key to the game is rebounding, Davis said. ""We had to get back to do what we do. It felt good to be home and we had a good plan."

Soufiyane Diakite had a quiet double-double (10 points, 15 rebounds) as the Wildcats did all the little things coaches like to see. Coppin State (4-21,4-6) never got into a rhythm and shot just 38 percent from the field.

Bethune-Cookman rediscovered its three-point shooting range, draining a season-high 14 from behind the arc. The real cool stat was the Wildcats' 23 assists on 31 field goals. Ball distribution, especially without point Malik Maitland, temporarily sidelined with a concussion.

"So proud of our guys," Ridder said. "We're playing without Malik, who runs our team and facilitates the ball.  23 assists without our point…we were focused on sharing the ball. "

Bailey knew the Wildcats could pass the ball better than he knew what dunk he was going to unleash.

"Sharing the ball has been a team mentality," Bailey said. "We always preach that. 23 assists isn't surprising."

Bethune-Cookman hosts Norfolk State Monday.
