@BCUWBB Game Day: MD-ES and NC Central

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman looks to remain unbeaten in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play and stay atop the league standing this weekend as the Lady Wildcats host Maryland-Eastern Shore Saturday at 2 p.m. and North Carolina Central Monday at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Wildcats (17-4 overall, 9-0 MEAC) lead North Carolina A&T (13-8,8-1) by one game with seven games remaining in the regular season. The top three teams get a first-round bye at the MEAC tournament in Norfolk, Va.
--If the tournament were starting today: Bethune-Cookman will be celebrating its third consecutive regular season title and would face either North Carolina Central or South Carolina State – currently the 8th and 9th seeds – in the opening round Wednesday.
--The Lady Wildcats currently have a three-and-a-half game lead – plus a tiebreaker -- over Howard for at least a first-round bye.
--The Lady Wildcats can finish no lower than a ninth-place seed.

THE STREAKS: Call them butter, 'cause the Lady Wildcats are on these rolls:
--Nine consecutive wins. Last year's team ran off 12 in a row.
--19 consecutive MEAC regular season games
--Eight consecutive home conference games
-- 142 consecutive games with a three-pointer

RECEIVING VOTES: B-CU is listed as receiving votes in the latest College Insider .com Top 25 Women's Mid-Major Poll. The Lady Wildcats received 16 points – 54 away from Northern Colorado at 25. Green Bay, Belmont and Florida Gulf Coast are the top three.

PUTTING IN HISTORIC PERSPECTIVE: Almost everything the 2017-18 Lady Wildcats is the best whatever since 1985. A sweep of the homestand would match the 1980 and 1984 teams' 23-game mark of the third best in school history.  The 1979 team was 21-2, the 1985 squad 20-3.

STATS AND STUFF:  B-CU has crept back into the top national 25 in blocked shots per game (24th, 5.1); FG% defense (21st, 36.2); 3FG% defense 13th (27.5) and scoring defense (18th, 55.7) …B-CU also leads the conference in rebounding margin (2.9), scoring margin (7.8), all the 3FG categories, 135 made 3FG, 6.4 3FG per game and 35.7 3FG%) …Emily Williams leads the league in assists-TO ratio (2.03) while Angel Golden is tops in 3FG per game (2.71) and 3FG% (40.7) … Golden is 4th in scoring (14.7) while Ashanti Hunt is seventh in rebounding (7.6) and third in assists (3.8) … Chasimmie Brown has registered double-figure rebounding her last four games.

SCOUTING MD-ES: The Lady Hawks (7-15,4-6)  have won three of their last four, including an 87-70 win over FAMU Monday … They're averaging 61.7 ppg and giving up 63.9…Bairehsa Gill-Miles is averaging 11.2 ppg and 7.8 rebounds and has been in double figure rebounding the last four nights. Jordyn Smith is averaging 8.6 ppg … B-CU won the first meeting 55-48, holding the Hawks to six fourth-quarter points…Maryland-Eastern Shore handed B-CU its last league loss, a 59-56 set back on 1/21/17.

SCOUTING NCCU: The Eagles (6-16,4-5) started MEAC play 3-1 but have since dropped four of the last five … Rodneysha Martin leads the scoring at 13.4 ppg … B-CU has won the last 14 meetings.
