@BCUvolleyball Manages Split On @CoachB_BCU's Birthday

Lady Wildcats fall to The Citadel, Beat St. Peter's At FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Birthday Bling for Bethune-Cookman Head Coach Brittany Williams would have taken its best form in a sweep of Friday's FAU Invitational matches.

Instead, the split with The Citadel and St. Peter's may have given Williams and the Lady Wildcats some gifts that could come in handy when Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play comes around.

Jordan Jefferson double-doubled twice as Bethune-Cookman  dropped a 3-2 decision to The Citadel (25-27,26-28,25-22,31-29,15-7) before downing St. Peters 3-1 (22-25,25-15,25-22,25-20). Jefferson had 22 kills and 14 digs against The Citadel and 18 kills and 21 digs against St. Peter's in which she hit .555 over the second and third set after St. Peter's won the first set, then led a Lady Wildcat comeback that erased a 9-1 fourth set deficit.

While Jefferson was being Jefferson, J'nai Higgins was being J'nai Higgins (A combined 93 assists, five kills and five blocks) and Faith Landreneaux (12 kills, eight blocks and three services) was being Faith Landreneaux, several other Lady Wildcats made their mark as a young team continues to develop.

The loss to The Citadel (2-3) saw B-CU (2-3) squander a two-set lead, than three match points in the fourth and finally allow the Bulldogs to hit .529 in the fifth as the Lady Wildcats lost focus in putting the match away.

Object lesson aside, the opener saw sophomore Tynesha Adams continue her progression with a career-high 12 kills while Miranda White, in her first action of the season, also post a career-high with 10 kills. Freshman Shayla Eugene established herself as a defensive specialist with 22 digs and finished the day with 32.

The St. Peter's storyline centered around Sterling Williamson, whose offensive game has been struggling as she adjusts from Junior College to Division I.  Sharing the swings with Jefferson, Williamson led the Lady Wildcats with 19 kills on 42 attempts. She had eight in the first set and five  in the fourth on nine attempts.

Freshman Skyla Whitaker had another solid all-around match, finishing with 13 digs.

B-CU concludes the tournament against host FAU Saturday at noon.
