DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Head Tennis Coach Val Villucci joked that Michelle NCube may have "set the bar" a little too high for her Bethune-Cookman debut this weekend at the Embry-Riddle Open.
The freshman from Zimbabwe was more concerned about "having fun."

Somewhere in between is what to take about Ncube's undefeated singles run through her that highlighted the women's team Fall season debut.

Going undefeated in singles on the men's side: Juan David Navarro.

With the Lady Wildcats looking to replace Alejandra Vidal and Matea Roki, Ncube's performance does have some long-term implications. But for now, it's about getting ready.

"She performed beautifully," Villucci said. "She's a solid, sound player who is smart on the court."

"I just tried to stay in the game and not worry about winning or losing," Ncube said. "This gives me a lot of confidence, but open to learn and improving every single practice. "

Navarro picked up where he left off last season that saw him lead the Wildcat men in singles victories in the humid conditions.

"It was a hard weekend for me, Navarro said. "But I'm working always, fighting to improve.

Next weekend is the HBCU Championships at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona.

"We want to make some noise," Villucci said. "We want other teams to look at us and have some more fear when we walk on the court."

B-CU's weekend results:
