BALTIMORE -- Bethune-Cookman is in the Charm City for two key Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference games and Head Coach
Vanessa Blair-Lewis' jersey number retirement at her alma mater this weekend.
The Lady Wildcats (9-8 overall, 2-3 MEAC) face Morgan State at 1 p.m. After the game, the team will head up to Emmitsburg, Md. where Blair-Lewis' number 24 will be retired by Mount St. Mary's, where she graduated in 1992 after leading that team into Division I and two Northeast Conference championship game appearances. A Hall of Famer at both MSM and the NEC, Blair-Lewis still holds her school's career blocked shots record (242) and is also the program's third-leading rebounder (849) and eighth-leading scorer (1,488).
BCU will conclude the road swing Monday at Coppin State and then will begin a four-game home stand Saturday against North Carolina Central.
Saturday's game with Morgan State (5-15,3-3) has big implications for BCU's conference standings. The Wildcats are a half-game behind both Savannah State and Morgan for fifth place and a game behind Howard for fourth. The top four teams earn first-round byes at the MEAC tournament in March.
If the tournament started today, BCU would play either Florida A&M or North Carolina Central in the 7-10 or 8-9 games .
