DURHAM, N.C. -- Angel Golden scored 21 points as Bethune-Cookman opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 67-50 victory over North Carolina Central Saturday.
The senior from Tampa had three first-half three-pointers, and the Lady Wildcat (8-5,1-0) defense held the Eagles to 5-32 shooting from the field to open up a 32-13 halftime lead that stretched to 51-27 on
Kindell Fincher's layup with 2:27 remaining in the third quarter.
NCCU (3-11,0-1) made its first six field goals -- including from for three-point range -- and got as close as eight points twice in the fourth quarter.
Golden, who registered her 20th career 20-point game -- hit a three that stopped the Eagle run, and the Lady Wildcat defense held the home team scoreless the 5:54 to register BCU's 18th consecutive MEAC conference road game.
Chasimmie Brown had 12 points and eight rebounds for BCU, while Fincher added 10 points and seven boards.
Paulina Afriyie had 15 points and 12 rebounds for NCCU.
BCU returns to action next Saturday at Howard.
