DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman wraps up a five-match Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference home stand with matches against Morgan State Friday at 6 p.m. and Coppin State Sunday at 1 p.m. in Historic Moore Gym.
The Lady Wildcats (6-14 overall, 3-3 MEAC) are in second place in the MEAC's Southern Division, three matches behind North Carolina A&T and one ahead of North Carolina Central. Florida A&M is 4-2 in league play, but ineligible for the conference tournament.
This weekend will go a long way into determining who BCU will play at the MEAC tournament November 22-24 in Washington, D.C.
IF IT WERE BEING HELD TODAY: BCU would be playing either Maryland-Eastern Shore, Delaware State or Coppin State in the quarterfinals. All three are tied with 3-3 league records. Morgan State is at 2-4.
WEEKLY WINNERS: After splitting last week's matches with North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central, BCU garnered three weekly awards –
Jordan Jefferson was named Co-Player Of The Week,
Ryleigh Taylor Setter of The Week and
Bailey Robinson Rookie Of The Week. It was Jefferson's second weekly honor of the season.
#WHATTAPLAYER:Â Jefferson needs 58 digs to become the third player in BCU history to reach 1,000 career digs. She's also 16 kills shy of 800. The San Antonio product has had three straight double-double matches to increase her career total to 40 and also has four matches with 20 or more digs.
BCU UPDATE: Taylor is currently eighth in the MEAC in assists (5.52 per set) while
Shayla Eugene is fifth in digs at 3.93 per set. Â Robinson is averaging 3.1 kills per set in league play while fellow freshman
Alleah Dallas is hitting .280 and averaging .96 blocks per set against the MEAC.
SCOUTING REPORTS: Morgan State (8-11,2-4) has lost three straight but features Zoe McBride, who leads the MEAC in kills with 4.56 per set … Coppin State (7-13,3-3) has lost three of its last four, but also has a big hitter in Miajavon Coleman, who averages 3.69 kills per set.
