DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University's Ashanti Hunt and Amaya Scott were named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball 2019-20 Preseason Team, it was announced today [October 23, 2019].

Hunt, the 2018 MEAC Defensive Player Of The Year, will return to the Lady Wildcat line-up after missing all but two games of last season due to injury. The 5-11 graduate student guard/forward from Washington, D.C.  garnered a First Team berth.

Scott, a 6-1 junior forward from Sunrise, Fla., was named to the Third Team. She averaged 8.6 points and 8.2 rebounds last year.

"I'm very pleased with both of these selections," said BCU Head Coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis. "Ashanti's ready to pick up where she left off before her injury and lead this team to a NCAA tournament appearance. Amaya has grown tremendously her first two seasons here and is prepared to become a dominant post player in this league."
  
The Lady Wildcats, who overcame numerous injuries to post a 21-11 record and a 57-45 victory over Norfolk State in the MEAC tournament championship game to earn their first NCAA tournament appearance, were picked to finish second in a poll of the conference's Head Coaches and Sports Information Director. North Carolina A&T received 12 of 21 first place votes and 229 points in the predicted order of finish to BCU's eight first place votes and 215 votes.

"When you play in the NCAA tournament, it makes you work harder because it's an experience you want to have again and again," Blair-Lewis said. "We're eager to get this season underway."

BCU opens the season at home on November 14 at 6 p.m. against Edward Waters.
