TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Day One of the Fifth Annual Juan Varon Wildcat Invitational left Bethune-Cookman Interim Head Coach Robert "Tony" O'Neal pleased both on and off the court.
"I'm very proud of the BCU staff and former players for how they kept the tournament running smoothly and efficiently," O'Neal said. "This tournament means a lot to the Bethune-Cookman athletic family and it showed today and will continue to show through the finals on Sunday."
On the court,
Victor Castro and
Gerhard Sullwald advanced to their respective flights semifinals, while
Afrika Smith downed Florida A&M's Arielle Neally in her opening match before falling in the quarterfinals.
"The competition has been strong and we've played very well as a team," O'Neal said. "I'm looking forward to seeing what we do on Saturday."
Action resumes Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at Daytona Tennis Center.
