Lynn W. Thompson leads the celebration of Women's Head Basketball Coach
Vanessa Blair-Lewis being enshrined alongside her father, Robert Blair, in the inaugural Largo (Md.) High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place Sunday evening.
"What an honor!" Thompson said. "How amazing is it to not only being in your school's inaugural Hall of Fame class, but to be enshrined alongside your father. I am proud of the Blair and Lewis families and congratulate them as they celebrate the great blessings being bestowed upon them!
Blair-Lewis, in addition to being a standout player, served as her dad's assistant coach from 1994-96 to help set the stage for Largo winning the 1997 Maryland 4A state championship.
"Sunday was such an amazing evening surrounded by incredible people," Blair-Lewis said. "Our gratitude goes out to the Largo High School Hall of Fame committee for selecting my Dad and I. We were blessed to have shared this evening with family, friends and teammates!"
The enshrinement continues an impressive 2019 for Blair-Lewis and her husband, Eric Lewis, a Bethune-Cookman alum and veteran NBA official who worked his first NBA Finals in June.
Blair-Lewis led the Lady Wildcats to a 21-11 campaign – her third straight 20-win season - that saw the team overcome the loss of key players to injury to defeat Norfolk State 57-45 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament championship for their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance against two-time defending National Champion Notre Dame. She was named BoxToRow's National Women's Coach of The Year in April.
In February, Blair-Lewis had her playing jersey retired at Mount St. Mary's, her college alma mater.
"She is well on her way to many more honors as a coach, wife and mother," Thompson said.
Her coaching staff shares that sentiment.
"This is another incredible accomplishment for our incredible leader," said Assistant Coach
Demetria Frank, who played for Blair-Lewis before joining the coaching staff.
Bethune-Cookman opens the 2019-20 season at home on Thursday, November 14 against Edward Waters.
