AUBURN, Ala. – Daniella Hatcher scored 16 points in Bethune-Cookman's 74-56 loss at Auburn Sunday afternoon.
Unique Thompson's double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds led five Auburn players in double figures as the Tigers (5-5) shot 65.2 percent from the field in the second half to pull away from a 36-31 halftime lead.
Auburn led 54-37 on a Thompson basket with 2:42 remaining in the third quarter before an 8-0 BCU run got it back to 54-45 on two
Ashanti Hunt free throws with 1:24 left. Auburn answered with the final five points of the quarter to make it 59-45.
A Hunt free throw closed it to 59-49 with 6:52 remaining , but the Tigers went on a 7-0 run to take control.
Ciara Thompson scored 10 of her 12 points in the first quarter as BCU (6-2) started strong.
BCU had four first-quarter leads, the last on a Thompson jumper that made it 14-13.
Camary Harris and Hunt scored the first points of the second quarter as BCU took a 24-19 lead, but the Tigers scored the next 10 points. BCU got it back to 29-28 on an
Amaya Scott jumper, but Auburn took a 36-31 lead at half.
Harris and Hunt each scored eight points for BCU while Thompson posted a team-high eight rebounds.
BCU's second game in this SEC swing is Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. ET against Alabama.
