Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

@BCUWBB Stopped By Crimson Tide, 60-49

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama needed a 9-0 fourth quarter run to stave off a Bethune-Cookman rally as the Lady Wildcats' two-game Southeastern Conference swing concluded with a 60-49 setback to the Crimson Tide Tuesday afternoon.

Kiana Williams' lay-up with 6:08 remaining brought Bethune-Cookman (6-3) to within 44-40, but Alabama's Jordan Lewis single-handedly helped the Crimson Tide (8-3) with the next nine points, including a pair of three-pointers.  Lewis finished with a game-high 17.

Amaya Scott scored nine of her 11 points in the second half, and Daniella Hatcher scored 10 for Bethune-Cookman, who trailed 35-24 with 5:46 remaining in the third quarter, but made six of seven shots to close to 39-35 on a Williams jumper with 1:36 left.

Alabama briefly built the lead back to eight before two Ciara Thompson free throws and another Williams bucket made it a two-possession game.

BCU had a 16-12 lead after Ashanti Hunt's fast break lay-up and a Tatum Hayes three-pointer started the second quarter. Alabama kept BCU scoreless the final 5:38 of the half to turn a 21-20 advantage into a 29-20 halftime lead.

Hatcher led BCU wih six rebounds. Hunt's stat line include seven points, five rebounds and three steals while Thompson and Hayes each scored six points.

BCU returns to action Thursday in the Stetson Christmas tournament, meeting Appalachian State at 3 p.m. in DeLand.

HEAD COACH VANESSA BLAIR-LEWIS
"I was pleased with our ladies' effort and toughness. We played hard enough to win but were unable to connect on some much needed baskets at key points in the game."

NOTES: BCU's 49 points were a season low … The Lady Wildcats did hold the Crimson Tide, who had beaten previously unbeaten North Carolina Sunday, to 3-17 on three-point field goal attempts … All three BCU losses this season have been to Alabama teams … BCU blocked a season-high eight shots, four by Ashlie Howell … Hatcher has been in double figures eight times.
