@BCUWBB Gives Blair-Lewis Her 300th Career Victory With Win Over ASU

Lady Wildcats Post 61-44 Decision At Hatter Classic

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Camary Harris scored 13 points as Bethune-Cookman gave Head Vanessa Blair-Lewis her 300th career coaching victory with a 61-44 victory in the Hatter Classic Thursday afternoon.

In her 12th season at BCU and 21st overall, Blair-Lewis has led the Lady Wildcats to three Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season championships, three WNIT appearances, the 2019 MEAC tournament championship and the program's first-ever NCAA tournament appearance against Notre Dame earlier this year.

Harris, a sophomore, led a balanced scoring effort to complement a defense that held Appalachian State to 27.8 percent field goal shooting – the lowest for any opponent this season. ASU's 44 points were the second-lowest for an opponent and marked the fourth time the Lady Wildcats (7-3) held a team under 50 points.

After seeing an early 9-3 lead turn into a 15-11 deficit, BCU used a 9-0 run to take a 20-15 lead on Harris' three-pointer with 4:49 remaining in the first half. ASU tied it at 20, but Harris, Ciara Thompson, Tania White and Armani Walker combined on a 7-0 run that gave BCU a 27-20 halftime lead.

Consecutive three-pointers from Ashanti Hunt gave BCU a 38-25 lead with 4:03 remaining in the third quarter.

Appalachian State closed to five points twice in the fourth quarter, but managed just one field goal in its final 12 attempts as BCU held their opponents scoreless the final 3:45.

Hunt and Amaya Scott and Walker were a combined 6-6 from the field as each player finished with eight points. Hunt led BCU with six rebounds. Daniella Hatcher scored six of her eight points in the first quarter, and Thompson also finished with eight.
Walker also had seven points in addition to five assists, four rebounds and three steals, while White also scored seven.

BCU faces cross county rival Stetson Friday at 11 a.m.

NOTES: BCU snapped a two-game losing streak; BCU hasn't lost three in a row since 2016 ... This was the first time Harris has led the team in scoring ... Imani Reid made her first career start ... BCU has won all five game it's had a better shooting percentage than its opponent.
