@BCUWBB Game Day: South Carolina State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –  Bethune-Cookman will celebrate Senior Day Saturday as the Lady Wildcats host South Carolina State in a key Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game at 2 p.m. in Historic Moore Gym.

Chasimmie Brown, Kindell Fincher, Angel Golden, Ashanti Hunt and manager Naimah Latson will be honored in pre-game ceremonies as the Lady Wildcats (17-9 overall, 10-4 MEAC) try to extend their winning streak to six games and improve their seeding for the conference tournament March 11-16 in Norfolk, Va.

The Lady Wildcats won the first meeting this season, 69-64 on Feb. 16 in Orangeburg, S.C. Golden scored 22 points, including two crucial free throws with 19 seconds remaining. She was 9-9 from the line that day.
BCU has one home game remaining – March 7 against Florida A&M in the regular season finale.

THE 411: BCU is currently third in the MEAC. North Carolina A&T has already clinched the top seed for the tournament. Maryland-Eastern Shore is currently in second, one game ahead of BCU while Norfolk trails BCU by a half-game and Howard is a full game back. The top four seeds earn first round byes in the tournament.

CAN BCU MOVE UP TO SECOND? Yes, if the Lady Wildcats win out and the Hawks drop their final two games.

WILL BCU REMAIN IN THIRD IF IT WINS OUT? Yes.  Even if Norfolk State also wins out, BCU holds the very, very complicated tiebreaker advantage.

#ALLTHEYDIDWASWIN: In addition to three MEAC regular season conference championships, both Brown and Golden are leaving winning legacies. Golden currently has 80 victories, the most for any Lady Wildcat and two shy of tying men's great Carl Fuller's all-time total of 82. Brown has appeared in fewer games and thus, trails Golden's win total by five, but her winning percentage of .678 is the highest for any Lady Wildcat since 1986.

Along with Hunt, who suffered a season-ending injury early this year, here's some other numbers that this senior class has put up:

OVERALL: 80-40 (.667)  HOME: 41-9 (.820) MEAC: 42-10 (.807)

#(ANGEL)GOLDENSTATE: Golden needs 37 points to pass Katie Clark (1,368) on the all-time scoring list. Her current season total of 504 is the seventh best in program history – a 13-point outing Saturday could vault her into fourth. She's also 22nd in the nation in minutes (37 per game).

#WHATCAN(CHAS)BROWNDO: Brown is averaging a double-double in MEAC play and is battling Delaware State's NaJai Pollard for the FG% title – Pollard holds a .491-.488 lead.

MORE STATS:  Freshman Camary Harris has reached double figures in three of her last four games and is 12-19 from the field the past two … Amaya Scott is averaging 9.6 ppg and shooting .421 in league play.

SCSU UPDATE: The Bulldogs (14-14,7-7) defeated NCCU Monday night …Taylor Brown is averaging 13.8 ppg.

SATURDAY COVERAGE: Former Lady Wildcat PG Emily Williams will make her color commentary debut on the CATEYE Network Webcast … We'll have live stats and pithy in-game comments on our @BCUWBB twitter and complete post-game  on www.bcuathletics.com
