DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Â
Clarence Carter brought in three,
Nate Sterijevski launched the game-winning home run, and the Bethune-Cookman bullpen pitched shutout ball in a 7-6 victory against A&M Sunday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. With the win, the Wildcats (7-8, 2-1) earned a series win over the Rattlers (6-13, 1-2).
Â
With the score tied in the home half of the fifth, Sterijevski took a 2-1 offering over the left field wall for the game's final run.
Â
BCU put a crooked number on the board first. In the second, the Wildcats took advantage of a FAMU error by second baseman Octavien Moyer that allowed
Danny Rodriguez to score following
Josten Heron's fielder's choice. Then, Carter brought home Heron and Joe Fernando on an RBI single to center field.
Â
FAMU punched back a frame later off starter
Seth Lovell with a Moyer two-run shot and a Bret Maxwell RBI single to right.
Â
An inning later, the Rattlers put another three-spot on the board with a ground-rule double from Willis McDaniel and a two-run single off Jared Weber's bat. Lovell finished with six earned off four hits in 3.2 innings. He walked five and struck out four.
Â
BCU chased out starter Josh Barr in the fourth to tie the game.
Over Torres hit his first jack of his Wildcat career on a two-run blast to left center. Later, Carter again produced an RBI with a single to right.Â
Â
Barr allowed only two earned but had six runs off seven hits without a walk or strikeout in 3.2 innings.Â
Â
Sterijevski's bomb came off reliever Jamie Grant, who gave up two hits over 1.1 innings in his second loss of the season (0-2).Â
Â
Joseph Strong punched out two over 1.1 innings, and
Brandon Wilkes claimed his third save of the season with no hits over two frames to go along with just one walk and four strikeouts.
Jordan Pinto (3-1) got the win in relief with two strikeouts, a walk, and one hit in two innings of action.
Â
BCU continues its 23-game home stretch with a visit from North Florida on Tuesday, Mar. 12.
