DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Michelle Ncube won her fifth straight singles match, and combined with doubles partner
Karen Romero on their fourth consecutive win as Bethune-Cookman downed Southern 4-1 Saturday at City Island Tennis Center.
The freshman from Harare, Zimbabwe improved to 7-3 on the season with her 6-1,6-2 decision over Tanaka Chakanyuka at No. 1 singles.
Earlier, she and Romero, a senior from Bogota, Colombia, raised their record as a tandem to 5-3 with a 6-2 doubles victory over Stephanie Mbaya and D'Jeri Raymond as the Lady Wildcats (4-8) clinched the doubles point.
Romero also registered a singles victory, her second in the last three matches.
Chalina Godbolt also recorded wins at both singles and doubles.
BCU's next match is Thursday evening against archrival Florida A&M at the United States Tennis Association's National Campus as part of its College Gameday series. The men's team will also be in action, which is slated to start at 6 p.m.
