DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Isaak Gutierrez shut down Jacksonville University with a stellar 6.1 innings of shutout relief, but the Dolphins outlasted Bethune-Cookman, 7-5, in 11 innings Wednesday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Gutierrez allowed four hits, walked four, and struck out five against 26 batters. He did not factor in the decision.

JU broke a 5-5 tie in the 11
th on a Jacob Southern RBI single and later added more for insurance.
Alec Mendez (0-1) was tagged with the loss, and Dolphin reliever Zach Bryant (1-0) gave up only one hit over the final 2.1 innings for the victory.

BCU (5-7) scored first thanks to three singles in the home half of the first off starter Greg Shanahan.
Nate Sterijevski and
Danny Rodriguez drove each produced RBI knocks, and
Over Torres made it a 3-0 lead with a sac fly to center field.

JU (5-6) answered with five runs in the second off starter
Seth Lovell.

The score held until the sixth when Torres scored on a passed ball, and an inning later
Brandon Wilkes tied the game on an RBI single.

BCU continues its 23-game home stretch by opening Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play on Friday, Mar. 8, against Florida A&M.
