Bermudez, @BCUSoftball Shuts Down SCSU For Series Sweep

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - -Alexis Bermudez picked up two more wins, and Bethune-Cookman picked up the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division series sweep of South Carolina State with victories of 8-3 and 10-0 Sunday at Sunnyland Park.

Bermudez, who won Saturday's series opener, threw four innings of one-hit relief as the Wildcats (15-25 overall, 6-0 MEAC) completed Saturday's suspended game, then the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie Of The Year fired a four-hit shutout to keep the Wildcats atop the Southern Division.

BCU 8 SCSU 3

South Carolina State led 3-0 after two innings, but the Wildcats used aggressive base running (seven stolen bases) to get back into it.

Pinchrunner Carrington Robinson and Quianah Mitchell scored on a passed ball and stolen base in the third to make it a one-run game. The next inning, Yvonne Siordia and Kara Traylor scored on a fielder's choice hit by Mitchell, who later scored on a passed ball to make it 5-3.

Mitchell scored her third run of the game, along with Brianna Sanders and Cheyenne Smith as BCU padded its lead to 8-3.

Bermudez struck out six and walked none.

While Bermudez was scattering four hits and striking out six, Smith went 3-3 from the plate and Brianna Paysinger and Kaira Cabato each drove in two runs for the Wildcats.

BCU jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one and pushed it to 5-0 in the third. Sanders smacked a two-run doubled and scored from second on a wild pitch to highlight BCU's five-run fourth.

Paysinger and Cabato each had two hits for the Wildcats.
