SAVANNAH, Ga. – Bethune-Cookman saw its season come to a close in a 5-3 decision against Savannah State Saturday at Tiger Field.
BCU (17-38, 10-14 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) put together another late rally but came up short. Zach Spivey produced an RBI single in the ninth but the Wildcats left the tying run aboard.
Spivey led the way with three of BCU's nine hits. The Wildcats added runs in the first with an Over Torres sacrifice fly, and in the fifth on Brady Van Hook's RBI single.
The Tigers (12-25-1, 10-14) gained separation with a four-run second, chasing out starter Isaak Gutierrez (2-5).
Seth Lovell starred out of the bullpen with arguable his finest performance to cap his freshman year. He fired four hitless innings with no walks and six strikeouts.
In a three-way tiebreaker, SSU advances to the MEAC tournament with a 7-5 record against the common opponents of BCU and North Carolina Central.
