BOCA RATON – Any chance to face Atlantic Coast Conference competition is chance to showcase your best effort.
Bethune-Cookman wants to continue its best effort and extend a two-match winning streak when the Lady Wildcats face Boston College in the opening match of the Owls Classic at Florida Atlantic.
BCU (2-3) will also face Southern Utah on Friday, then conclude the tournament against host FAU Saturday at noon – plenty of time to get down to Miami Gardens to catch the football team's ACC game against Miami.
Does going up against the ACC in volleyball in non-conference play produce the same results as football, or baseball or softball or basketball for volleyball?
"Most definitely," said BCU Head Coach
Brittany Williams. "You always want to face the highest level of competition possible to prepare you for [Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference] play. Florida Atlantic always puts on a good tournament and we're looking forward to the weekend."
The Lady Wildcats spent 10 days in Texas due to Hurricane Dorian. While they were able to pick up two victories against Texas Southern in quickly arranged matches, Williams said it's good be back into the routine.
"It's definitely been great finally being back in Moore Gym. "The girls are back into their normal routines with class, weights, practice, etc."
Jordan Jefferson garnered MEAC Co-player of the Week honors, and
Faith Landreneaux is eighth in the nation in service aces.
Tynesha Adams is fifth in the MEAC in hitting percentage (.271) while
Shayla Eugene is averaging 2.84 digs per set.
NOTES: Boston College (4-2) swept its three matches last week at the UConn Challenge … Southern Utah (5-1) won its first five matches of the season before losing to Boise State … FAU (3-2) took No. 22 Florida State to five sets last week before dropping the match at Texas Christian…Williams is 0-1 against the ACC, meeting Clemson in 2017 while BCU is 0-3 overall adding in two losses to Miami.
