DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daniella Hatcher registered season highs of 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists as Bethune-Cookman downed Morgan State 74-65 Monday evening.
Ashanti Hunt posted her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds while
Amaya Scott added 13 points and eight rebounds as the Lady Wildcats (11-5 overall, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) shot 63.6 percent from the first half to lead 34-16 on a
Tatum Hayes three-pointer with 5:48 remaining in the half.
BCU had leads of 7-0 and 13-4 in the opening five minutes.
Morgan State (6-11, 2-2) battled back to 39-37 and 46-44 in the third quarter.
Kiana Williams scored five straight points to push the Lady Wildcats' lead back to seven, and Hunt's traditional three-point play sparked an 8-2 run to close the quarter.
While the defense forced the Bears to miss nine of their first 10 shots of the fourth quarter, Hunt gave BCU a 64-49 lead with a fastbreak lay-up with 7:40 remaining.
Ashia McCalla led Morgan State with 21 points. Chelsea Mitchell, the conference's second leading scorer, was held to three points on 1-4 shooting.
BCU hosts North Carolina Central Saturday at 2 p.m.
