NORFOLK, Va. – Ashanti Hunt had a 19-point, 12-rebound double but Bethune-Cookman fell 61-55 to Maryland-Eastern Shore in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament semifinals Wednesday afternoon at the Scope.
Adrienne Jones' 21-point helped the Hawks (10-21) lead from start to finish and advance to Friday's semifinals against the North Carolina Central-North Carolina A&T winner.
Bethune-Cookman (23-6) will continue its season in the WNIT by virtue of its MEAC regular season championship. The Lady Wildcats will learn their opponent Monday evening.
The Lady Wildcats shot a season low 26.9 percent (18-67) from the field and when they would closed to a one-possession game, the Hawks would answer with a clutch shot. The Hawks' seven three-pointer were the second-most by a BCU opponent this season.
Trailing by as many as 11, BCU closed to 37-36 on a
Daniella Hatcher three-pointer with 11 second left in the third quarter, but the Hawks sank a three to end the third quarter.
BCU made it a three-point game on three occasions in the fourth quarter, the last on a
Camary Harris three-pointer with 2:55 left that made it 49-46. The Lady Hawks scored the next seven points to pull away.
Hatcher finished with 10 points, while
Amaya Scott posted eight points and 13 rebounds.
NOTES: BCU's 50 rebounds were a season high.
