JACKSON, MISS. – Bethune-Cookman travels to Mississippi to take on #20 Jackson State in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) eastern division matchup. 

Bethune-Cookman (0-7 overall, 0-4 SWAC) looks for their first win of the season. Last week the Wildcats lost a hard fought game to Prairie View A&M, 35-29. Offensively Bethune-Cookman was led by Devin Black who finished with 202 yards passing and two touchdowns. Que-shaun Byrd led B-CU with 24 carris for 176 yards and a touchdown while Averett finished with six catches for 115 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Untareo Johnson had a game-high nine tackles. B-CU punter Benjamen Lennon punted the ball six times for an avg. of 42.3 with a long punt of 51 yards.
 
Jackson State (5-1 overall, 3-0 SWAC) enters Saturday's contest ranked #20 in the FCS Coaches poll. The Tigers will be without head coach Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders as the Pro Football Hall of Famer is recovering from a follow-up procedure on his foot. Gary Harrell will serve as the interim head coach for the game. Harrell joined Sanders' staff in November of 2020 after spending one season as the running backs coach at Alabama State. Previously, Harrell spent two seasons as Lane Kiffin's wide receivers coach at Florida Atlantic.

BEEN A LONG TIME: A Bethune-Cookman football team hasn't been to Jackson since 1978, when the host Tigers posted a 35-6 decision. (B-CC won the previous year 10-3). The last two meetings have been neutral site—1989 in Indy at the Circle City Classic (JSU 27-7) and 2019 in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge in Atlanta (B-CU 36-15). JSU leads the overall series 4-3.

AVERETT AT THE TOP: TE Kemari Averett leads the SWAC with 657. He's second in touchdown catches (6) and third in average yards (18.8) per catch. He's caught at TD in each of the last five games.

BYRD, BYRD, BYRD: With a season-high 178 yards against PVAMU, Que'Shaun Byrd moved into sixth in the SWAC with an average of 79.3 yards per game. He's also in a five-way tie for third with four rushing touchdowns.  

DEAS, PLEASE: KR Darnell Deas is the only player in the SWAC with a TD return this season. In addition to the two touchdowns, Deas also leads the league with 355 yards and a 32.3 average.
LENNON, DOWN UNDER: Australian transfer Ben Lennon is second in the SWAC with a 41.5 average. He's had four punts over 50 yards with a season-long of 61.
