Wildcats Face Three Matches at Grambling Cluster

Grambling. La. – Bethune-Cookman volleyball heads to Louisiana this weekend for a cluster of games hosted by Grambling State. The Wildcats will take on University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff and Grambling State on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively, followed by a match against Texas Southern at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Recap
 
The Wildcats (5-16, 5-5 SWAC) enter play this weekend after a home split this past week. B-CU defeated Mississippi Valley State, 3-0, on Friday followed by a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Jackson State on Sunday.
 
B-CU's Alleah Dallas had a massive weekend, racking up 14 total blocks, including 10 on Sunday, earning her SWAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors. Jacynta Williams aided the defensive efforts with 35 digs.

Scouting UAPB
 
The Lions sit in second place in the SWAC with a 11-13 overall record and 7-1 conference record. UAPB survived a 1-12 start to the season, posting a 10-1 record in its last 11 including five straight wins. The Lions are undefeated at home this season.
 
The Lions have limited opponents to a .162 hitting percentage this season. They lead the SWAC in total blocks for the season but sit behind B-CU in blocks per set, having played 11 more sets than the Wildcats. Kori Diego is hitting .350, the second-best mark in the SWAC. She sits in second place behind B-CU's Dallas for the SWAC lead in blocks per set.
 
Scouting Grambling State
 
The cluster hosts are 1-4 in their last five games, most recently dropping a match to Louisiana Tech, 3-0. Like UAPB, the Tigers are similarly tough against opposing offenses, allowing the second lowest hitting percentage to opponents at .190.
 
Jada Taylor ranks second in the SWAC with 326 total digs. Tamaira Johnson leads the Tigers with 126 kills.

Scouting TSU
 
Texas Southern is also 1-4 in its last five games, most recently splitting a home weekend with a victory over Alcorn State and a loss to Southern. The Tigers rank fourth in the conference in digs per set with just over 15.
 
Thalia Cordero Moreno leads the Tigers with 185 kills on the season. Aeris Ramsey leads the team in digs with 205 and assists with 341.
 
Wildcat Notes
 
B-CU head coach Brittany Williams continues her push to become the winningest head coach in program history. With 66 wins in her career, she currently sits seven wins behind Vanessa Cogswell's all-time mark of 73 career wins.
 
Dallas built a commanding lead in blocks per set this weekend with a 1.07 mark. She now sits only three behind UAPB's Diego for in total blocks, despite having played 12 fewer sets. Her ten blocks in Sunday's match against Jackson State tied her for the highest block total in a game by any SWAC player this season.
