Wildcats Defeat Alabama A&M in Strong All-Around Effort

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.  – The SWAC's No. 1 blocking team looked the part Wednesday night, stuffing the Bulldogs 17 times in a 3-1 victory.

The Wildcats (6-10, 6-9 SWAC) dropped the first set of the evening, 25-22, but quickly rebounded to take the second set, 25-17. Strong play continued for B-CU in the third set – the team hit a combined .412 with 18 kills in another 25-17 set victory over the Bulldogs (5-22, 5-10 SWAC).

The fourth set ended in some drama. The Wildcats trailed 24-21 late but scored six of the last seven to outlast the Bulldogs, 27-25. Middle Blocker Alleah Dallas iced the game with a solo block.

For the second time this season, Dallas blocked ten, including two solo and eight block assists. As if that was not enough, Dallas added ten kills, hitting .350 for the game with 18 total points. Dallas is one of only two players in the SWAC to block ten in a single game – she has now done it twice.

Dallas had plenty of help controlling the front of the net. Malina Spencer contributed seven block assists of her own. Niara Hightower and Jasmine Moore followed right behind with six and four blocks, respectively.

"Alleah was a force at the net," head coach Brittany Williams said after the game. "Niara came in and feed off of that energy and was lights out on the right side."

It was not only blocking that led to the Wildcats win. Moore led all Wildcats with 11 kills. Victoria Samedy led B-CU with 16 digs, while Jacynta Williams added 15. Nia Spicer and Madison Coates set up their team with 18 and 15 assists, respectively.

Williams lauded the complete effort from her team Wednesday night.

"Tonight, we showed who we are as a team," Williams said. "Our goal going in was to play our game, and we did that. I have never been prouder of this team and to be able to be their coach. They laid their hearts out on the floor tonight."

The Wildcats will wrap up the 2021-22 regular season on Friday, Nov. 12 when they take on Alabama State in Montgomery, Ala. at 6 p.m.
