Volleyball Signs Rylee Davis and Mecca Freeman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.  – Bethune-Cookman volleyball adds two signees for fall, 2022. Rylee Davis (San Antonio, Tex. / San Antonio Madison HS) and Mecca Freeman (Houston, Tex. / Mayde Creek HS), have both signed National Letters-of-Intent, head coach Brittany Williams announced.

Davis, a 5'5" setter recorded over 1500 assists and 1000 digs this season. The four-year varsity player earned a spot on the 2021 TGCA All Star Team and was a 2021 AVCA All American. She also made Second-team All District in 2020 and 2019.

Davis was named to the Prep Volleyball Supernova Watch list and ranked #36 out of the top 150 players in Texas, according to Prep Dig.

"Rylee will bring depth and speed to add to our setter group," Williams said. "She is a natural floor general who can play some lights-out defense."

Freeman, a 6'3" outside hitter/middle blocker was a key part of a 6A postseason run in Houston. She finished her high school career as Mayde Creek's all-time leader in blocks and kills.

Freeman showed improvement each year, earning an honorable mention for an All-District spot in 2018. A year later, she earned a spot on Katy ISD's Second Team All-District, and in 2020 she climbed to First Team All-District. Freeman led Houston Skyline in blocks in 2020-21.

"Mecca not only bring size, but also a wealth of high-level experience to the Wildcat front line," Williams said. "Her ability to lay in the middle or on either pin will prove key in adding to a veteran returning offensive group."

Davis and Freeman will join the Wildcats ahead of the 2022 season. B-CU volleyball completed its 2021 season last week.
