Daytona Beach, Fla. – The Wildcats got back in the conference win column with a 55-50 victory over Jackson State, Saturday night at Moore Gymnasium
How It Happened
The Wildcats (5-13, 3-3 SWAC) fell behind quickly, 13-3, through six minutes of play. A layup from
Joe French and a block from
Dylan Robertson on the other end quickly turned the tide for the Wildcats, who raced off to a 22-6 run and finished the half up by a basket, 27-25.
Kevin Davis led B-CU with 15 points including 3-4 from deep through the first 20 minutes while all other Wildcats combined for 12.
B-CU picked up where they left off after the break, pushing their lead to a game-high nine points after a
Marcus Garrett layup at the 18-minute mark. Jackson State (4-13, 2-4 SWAC) pulled to as close as two down with seven minutes remaining, but the Wildcats held their composure on their way to a 55-50 victory.
"I thought it was all around a really great team effort tonight." Wildcats head coach
Reggie Theus said after the game. "The points in the paint, the points off of turnovers, I was very pleased with the all-around effort tonight."
Davis finished the game with 18 points and three steals, followed by
Marcus Garrett with 14 points and a pair of steals. Garrett also dished out seven assists.
Jakolby Long and
Jonathan Bolden provided valuable minutes off the bench for the Wildcats. Each grabbed six rebounds – three of them offensive for Bolden – as they helped to limit the Tigers' attack.
"I thought our guys off the bench did a great job tonight," Theus said. "Jonathan, Jakolby, and (
Collins Joseph) came in and really saved the game. I thought we were a little stagnant and they came in and did a great job for us – we had our biggest lead of the game when those guys were in there."
