@BCUGolf Alum Mack III Earns Korn Ferry Tour Card; Set For PGA Tour This Weekend

Former Bethune-Cookman golfer Willie Mack III is on a roll.

Two weeks ago, Mack won the Butterfield Bermuda APGA Tour Event, his third victory of the season. He'll return to Bermuda this weekend after being granted an exemption into the PGA TOUR's Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

But last weekend, nearly a decade that included sleeping in his car, playing with ill-fitting clubs and a myriad of mini-tour events paid off when he earned his Korn Ferry Tour Card in Plantation, Fla. at a 72-hole qualifying tournament.

The Korn Ferry Tour is the PGA Tour's developmental league and the primary path for golfers to earn their PGA card.

Since turning pro, Mack has won more than 70 tournaments in his career on the mini-tours, but this will be his first opportunity to play fulltime on the Korn Ferry Tour after eight unsuccessful attempts.

He parred the final 10 holes to finish the 72-hole tournament 13-under par, finishing in a tie for 14th place.

Mack has played four Korn Ferry Tour events, making one cut earlier this year.

This weekend will mark Mack's sixth PGA Tour event. In July 2021, Mack made his first PGA Tour cut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. He followed by advancing to the weekend the next weekend at the John Deere Classic.

Mack, a native of Flint, Mich. won 11 titles during his playing career at Bethune-Cookman. In 2011, Mack became the first African American to win the Michigan Amateur Championship
