Lorman, Miss. – An ugly defensive battle came down to the final minutes, but it was Alcorn State that came out on top, 17-14, Saturday evening in Lorman, Miss.
How It Happened
The Afternoon was characterized by defense as the Wildcats (2-8, 2-5 SWAC) and Alcorn State (5-5, 4-3 SWAC) ended the first quarter scoreless.
The Braves broke the scoring drought midway through the second quarter with a 12-yard rushing score. They added three on a field goal in the final two minutes of the half.
The Wildcats finally punched in a score as the second half got underway. Jalon Jones slipped through the defense for a dazzling nine-yard rushing score.
The Wildcats took the lead to start the final quarter, as Jones found Kemari Averett for a 10-yard touchdown.
Just as the Wildcats appeared in control of the game, the Braves intercepted a Jones pass for a pick-six, taking a 17-14 lead that would stand as the clock hit zeros.
The game featured seven total fumbles, all seven of which were recovered by the opposing squad. Each team also coughed up an interception, B-CU's resulting in Alcorn's game-winning pick six.

- TreSean Smith led the Wildcats with 12 tackles.
- Eddie Walls III recorded a pair of sacks. Devuntray Hampton and Judas McKenzie each got to the quarterback as well.
- Ge'Mon Eaford recorded a pick – the first of his career - and a fumble recovery.
- Rosendo Louis broke up a pair of passes.
- TE Kemari Averett has caught a pass in every game since joining the Wildcats. He extends his streak to 21 games with four catches for 35 yards and his sixth touchdown of the season.
