HOUSTON, Tex. – Bethune-Cookman makes its Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball tournament debut Friday when the Wildcats meet Grambling State in the opening round Friday at 7:30 p.m. EST at Texas Southern University.
The Wildcats (8-20 overall, 8-8 SWAC) enter as the tournament's sixth seed while Grambling State (15-11, 12-4 is third. B-CU did not qualify for the tournament in its inaugural SWAC season in 2021.
Friday's winner will meet the Florida A&M- Arkansas-Pine Bluff winner in the semifinals Saturday.
The Wildcats ride a two-game winning streak into the postseason after taking down Mississippi Valley State and Jackson State last weekend.
Notes
- Head Coach Brittany Williams became B-CU's all-time coaching victory last week when B-CU downed Mississippi Valley State. She'll be coaching in her hometown of Houston. She coached the Wildcats to a berth in the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship match and two semifinal appearances,
- Dallas went over the 100 blocks for a season mark in the regular season finale, the eighth in program history. She's fourth on the all-time list with 283.
- Spencer has hit .412 or better in four of the last eight matches, including a .636 against Prairie View and .571 against Alabama A&M
- Freeman has four double figures kill matches in the last seven.
- Hightower has hit .513 the last three matches.
- Callender posted a season-high 45 kills against Jackson State.
- Grambling State won the first meeting this season 3-2. Moore had 15 kills and Jaedyn Newman 13 while Callender had 40 assists and 23 digs while Marrero had 20 digs.
