DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A dominant game from beginning to end saw the Wildcats sweep the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M, earning head coach
Brittany Williams her 73
rd win as B-CU head coach.
The win ties Williams for the program's all-time coaching wins mark set by Vanessa Cogswell, who led the program from 2004-2010.
"I joined this program first as an assistant under a great head coach in Isaac Raphael," Williams said. He taught me a lot and he entrusted me with this program when he stepped away from coaching for a bit. It was a whirlwind for me, but my goal was always just to make the program better."
"I've been told to always leave things better than how I found it," Williams continued. "That's been my goal every single year. Even though we've had some hiccups here and there, I'm super excited to have done this with this group and this staff."
How it Happened
It was a dominant afternoon for the Wildcats (6-20, 6-8 SWAC) , who bested the Bulldogs (7-23, 6-8 SWAC) 25-12, 25-11, and 25-23 in straight sets.
Alleah Dallas led the Wildcats with 10 kills, followed by Malina Spencer with five.
Dallas finished with nine blocks on the day, a season-high. Spencer followed right behind with six total blocks.
Alisha Callender assisted on 27 kills. Adriana Marrerro finished with 15 digs.
The Wildcats control their own destiny as the SWAC playoffs approach in under two weeks. They hold down the seventh seed over UAPB and PVAMU. Both teams hold a game in hand over the Wildcats, but B-CU retains a one-game lead in the loss column over the Panthers.
With two left to play at Moore Gymnasium this season, Williams talked about the keys to the Wildcats playoff push:
"It's about selling out," Williams said." We have to sell out to the game play and trust our training. We have to go out and do the things we know we're capable of doing and trusting our instincts."
NOTES
- With two games left to play, Alleah Dallas is just seven blocks away from 100 on the season. She finished with 99 blocks a season ago.
- Dallas played apart in nine of ten total B-CU Blocks on the afternoon.
