LORMAN, Miss. – Morgan Beacham scored 19 as Bethune-Cookman defeated Alcorn State 64-48 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon.
Beacham registered 13 first-quarter points as the Wildcats (5-16 overall, 4-8 conference) won their second straight game. B-CU led 17-9 after the first quarter and never trailed again.
Alcorn State (2-17,1-11) closed to 48-44 with 9:05 remaining, but an 8-0 Wildcat run pushed the lead back to 56-44. The Braves scored just four points after that.
Taylor Williams added 11 points for B-CU, followed by
Tatum Hayes with nine.
Kayla Clark and
Tania White had 13 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
Zy'Nyia White led Alcorn State with 14.
B-CU faces Jackson State Monday.
NOTES: B-CU has won two straight for the first time this season…. The Wildcats had a season-high 53 rebounds….Beacham reached double-figures for the first time in four games … Alcorn State's 48 were a season-low for an opponent … The 16 points were B-CU's largest margin of victory.
