Wildcats Offense Sputters in Loss to Alabama A&M

Daytona Beach, Fla.  – An off night on the offensive end was too much for the Wildcats to overcome as they fell, 62-60 to Alabama A&M, Saturday night at Moore Gymnasium.

How It Happened

The Wildcats (7-19, 5-9 SWAC) took the lead early on in the game and led by double-digits with four minutes remaining in the first half. Alabama A&M (8-16, 7-7 SWAC) battled back with an 8-2 run to go into halftime down only four.

In the second half, the Wildcats shot only 31 percent from the field while the Bulldogs converted over 54 percent of their shots into points. The game was tied, 55-55 with just under two minutes to play, but the Wildcats could not prevail, falling 62-60 when all was said and done.

"When you shoot the ball 16 more times than the other team, that's a game you typically win," Wildcats head coach Reggie Theus said after the game. "We lose tonight because of toughness. Our guys battled out there – it's just some of the little things that have to happen."

The Wildcats bested the Bulldogs in rebounds, assists, steals and points off turnovers, second-chance points, and three-point percentage. The Bulldogs made 18-29 free throw attempts, while the Wildcats made 14-21. Getting to the line has been a point of emphasis for Theus.

"We really do work at it," Theus said. "We understand who we are. We've got to get to the line.

Marcus Garrett led the Wildcats with 21 points and 8 rebounds, as well as a pair of steals. Kevin Davis followed with 16 points and 7 rebounds, along with Joe French who scored 14.

  • B-CU scored 17 points off of turnovers, 12 second-chance points, and 14 fast-break points.
  • The Wildcats were outscored in the paint, 32-20
  • Garrett, Davis, and French each played over 35 minutes in the game.
