JACKSON, Miss. – Bethune-Cookman's opening weekend of Southwestern Athletic Conference play ended with 7-0 and 2-1 losses at Jackson State Sunday.
The Wildcats (6-17 overall, 1-2 SWAC) will have their SWAC home opener Friday and Saturday against Alabama State.
GAME ONE
Jackson State (11-8,2-1) jumped on B-CU for three first-inning runs, then added four in the fifth.
Shania Owens had two of B-CU's four hits.
GAME TWO
B-CU took a 1-0 in the third when
Carrington Robinson scored on
Haley Parks' fielder's choice, but Jackson answered in the bottom half of the third and took the lead in the fifth.
The Wildcats made a two-out rally in the seventh after
Kayla Traylor and
Julissa Gomez registered back-to-back singles, but couldn't score.
Halyne Gonzalez and
Hannah Ortega combined on a four-hitter for B-CU, with Gonzalez striking out five.
