DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman's four game winning streak ended Tuesday night as UCF downed the Wildcats 6-2 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
How it Happened
The Wildcats (5-7, 0-0 SWAC) took a 1-0 lead in the third when Matt Garcia tripled home Mailk Stephens.
UCF (9-3, 0-0 AAC) used a two-run homer in the fifth to take its first lead, but B-CU answered in the bottom half of the inning when
Franki Febles scored on a wild pitch.
B-CU kept things close for much of the evening, but the Knights took control with a run in the sixth and three in the ninth.
"I think we did well, it's just a few mistakes that cost us a ballgame against a team that was receiving votes nationally," Wildcats head coach
Jonathan Hernandez said after the game. "We just have to limit our mistakes and carry the momentum with us as we head to Baton Rouge."
Stephens had two hits for B-CU.
Dale Michaud took the loss for the Wildcats.
In a bullpen game for the Wildcats that featured eight different arms,
Marcos Gamboa started for B-CU, giving up two hits and striking out three.
Amir Asghar struck out five in 2.2 innings of relief, allowing no hits or walks.
"I think a game like this is an opportunity for growth," Hernandez said. "Our guys have done very well, but with every opportunity in failure, we have to be able to learn. After today's game we'll believe in ourselves and keep that convidence up as we get back to it on Friday."
