Wildcats Stung By Hornets, 9-5

Montgomery, Ala. – Nolan Santos once again struck out double-digit batters, but Alabama State evened up the weekend series with a 9-5 win, Saturday night in Montgomery, Ala.
 
How It Happened
 
The Wildcats (19-23, 13-7 SWAC) took control early as Jeremy Garcia scored Brian Perez with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.
 
An inning later, B-CU added three more on a Boris Peña RBI single and a two-run homer for Malik Stephens, his third of the year.
 
Alabama State (23-17, 14-4 SWAC) cut into the lead in the third inning, scoring on a wild pitch. A three-run homer tied things up in the sixth at 4-4.
 
The two teams traded runs in the seventh, B-CU's coming on a bases-loaded walk by Franki Febles.
 
Alabama State took the lead for good in the eighth, scoring four runs on an RBI double, single, bases-loaded walk, and a wild pitch to take a 5-9 lead, and that would be all.
 
Nolan Santos made the start for the Wildcats He threw 6.2 innings, allowing five runs – all earned – on six hits and three walks. He turned in another double-digit strikeout game, finishing with 11 on the evening.
 
Brenton Fisher took the loss. In two-thirds of an inning, he allowed two runs on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Amir Asghar also took two-thirds of an inning. He walked two and struck out one.

  • Four Wildcats registered mutli-hit games – Matthew Garcia, Irvin Escobar, Boris Peña, and Jeremy Garcia.
  • Malik Stephens has reached safely in 13 straight games after a base hit.
  • B-CU left 13 men on base.
  • Nolan Santos has struck out double-digit batters in three straight games, four of his last five starts, and five total times this season. He has 82 total punchouts this season.
