HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Bethune-Cookman swept a Southwestern Athletic Conference doubleheader from Alabama A&M Friday, taking the opener 4-2 and the second game 2-1.
The three-game series concludes Saturday at 1 p.m. EST.
GAME 1
B-CU (13-22 overall, 8-6 SWAC) broke open a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth.
Briana Paysinger singled home
Joslynn Davis to give the Wildcats the lead, then Paysinger and
Desirae Martinez scored on a throwing error.
Haley Parks scored on an error on
Carrington Robinson's single in the third that made it a 1-0 game,
Hannah Ortega scattered five hits, walked one and struck out eight for the victory.
GAME 2
Parks and Robinson combined for five hits as Ortega took a shutout into the seventh to pace B-CU's victory.
Davis brought Parks home with a first-inning bunt, while Robinson scored on a passed ball in the sixth.
Robinson was 3-3 with two doubles and Parks 2-3 with two stolen bases.
Ortega's seventh inning run was unearned. She gave up three hits and struck out five.
NOTE: This was the third time this season B-CU has swept the doubleheader of a SWAC series and the first time on the road.
