Daytona Beach, Fla. – Offense was hard to come by for the Wildcats Friday night as they were shutout for the second time this season in the series-opener with Florida A&M, Friday night at Bethune Point.
How It Happened
Florida A&M (13-18, 7-3 SWAC) pushed the game's first run of the game across in the top of the third with an RBI double off the wall in left.
The Rattlers tacked on to that lead in the sixth with two walks and two two-out RBI hits to make it 3-0.
FAMU made it 5-0 in the top of the ninth with two runs on three hits.
The Wildcats (13-15, 7-3 SWAC) managed only one hit, a single from
Brian Perez, and one walk, a walk by
Matthew Garcia. They left three men on base
"Obviously credit to FAMU tonight," Wildcats head coach
Jonathan Hernandez said after the game. "At the end of the day, we knew that we were going to face a pretty good arm , we just didn't make the adjustments."
Louis Lipthratt took his second loss of the season. He went 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
Knickolas Billings took the final 3.1 innings. He allowed to runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
"The good thing about baseball is getting that opportunity to come back and tie this series up tomorrow," Hernandez said. "We'll reset, refocus, and go from there."
