Wildcats’ Bats Silenced In Jacksonville

Jacksonville, Fla. -  The Wildcats suffered a quiet night at the plate as they fell to Jacksonville, 7-2, Tuesday night at John Sessions Stadium.

How It Happened

Jacksonville (23-18, 9-12 ASUN) took an early lead in the bottom of the first on a Wildcat error, RBI triple, and sacrifice fly that made it 3-0.

The Wildcats (19-25, 13-8 SWAC) opened the third with three straight walks on nine straight balls from the Jacksonville starter. B-CU cracked the scoreboard on a groundout from Irvin Escobar that scored Franki Febles.

The Dolphins tacked on four more in the bottom of the fifth. Malik Stephens made a diving effort in left field, but an RBI double scored two to push the JU lead to 5-1. An odd play that saw a Dolphins baserunner screen Matthew Garcia out of a play at shortstop scored two more to make it 7-1, JU.

B-CU bats scuffled all night, recording their first hit of the game in the eighth inning thanks to the bat of Manny Souffrain, scoring Kyle Wilkinson to make it 7-2.

Seven pitchers appeared for the Wildcats on the evening. Alec Mendez started and took the loss. He allowed three runs – two earned - on three hits and three walks in two innings.

Marcos Gamboa, Gabriel Perez, Derrius York, Amir Asghar, Brian Piña, and Joán Gonzalez each chipped in on the bullpen day.

Notes
  • Malik Stephens has reached safely in 15 straight games after a walk tonight.
  • Seven different Wildcat pitchers appeared in the game - a season-high.
  • Joán Gonzalez struck out the side in the eighth.
  • B-CU left six men on base. Jacksonville stranded nine.
