Cooper to Step Down as Cross Country, Track and Field Coach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Athletic Director Reggie Theus announced Monday that head coach Donald Cooper has stepped down as Bethune-Cookman University's leader of the Men's and Women's Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor track and field programs.  Coach Cooper is returning to his alma mater, South Carolina State University as its Head Coach.
 
"Thank you Coach Cooper for your dedicated time and commiment to Bethune Cookman University Athletics," Theus said. "As coaches we ask our players to 'leave it better than you found it', and Coach Cooper, you have done so exceptionally. We wish you and your family the very best in your next journey."  
 
Cooper led the Wildcat men's indoor and outdoor teams to a run of five consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships (three outdoor, two indoor) from 2014-2016. The 2015 indoor and outdoor titles were decided by a combined 2.5 points.

Nine individual and four relay teams qualified for NCAA National meets, including Quamecha Morrison, who finished runner-up in the high jump at the 2018 Indoor Championships. Morrison became the first Bethune-Cookman woman to score points at a national meet and earn First Team All American status.

Also, Michael Tiller who won the 2017 Regional Championship in the Triple Jump. In 2018, The Wildcats sent two individuals (Jonathan Moore in the 800 and Jordan Williams in the 200) and two relay teams (The Men's 4X400 and the Women's 4X100) to the NCAA national Outdoor Meet.

His first season in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (2022) had B-CU's Carlin Berryhill win Outstanding Male Performer honors.

Assistant Coach Orrin Michael Hamer has been appointed as Interim Head Coach for Cross Country, Indoor and Oudoor Track and Field, effective immediately.
