In 1923, 15 Bethune-Cookman college students and a coach embarked on the school's first attempt at Intercollegiate football. Some of those initial effort weren't very successful, but unknown at the time, a powerful legacy was being built.
In 2023 Bethune-Cookman University football is now recognized as a top brand in HBCU football, with both a proud past and promising future.
Consider what the program has achieved in a century.
It has mirrored the growth from a two year college to a four year university as well as to national prominence.
It has produced 14 conference championships, 4 national championship only rivaled by the off-the-field accomplishment.
It has produced numerous All-Americans who have played with distinction, including 2002 Buck Buchanan award winner Rashean MathisÂ
It has produced over 40 professional football players including
Nick Collins, who scored in the Super Bowl, and Larry Little, enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
It has produced thousand of young men, many of whom have gone out to coach the next generations and athletic administrators. Several former Wildcats have come back here, including current coach Raymond Woodie Jr..
It has catapulted us to national prominence with games and stories seen on television and cable.
And finally, it has produced thousands of graduates who have lived up to the motto of
Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve in their families and local communities.
