BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mia Delahoussaye has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Week for the period of October 4-10, announced Wednesday by the league office from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. For Delahoussaye, this is her first SWAC weekly honor.
 
Delahoussaye, a 6-foot-3, freshman outside hitter from West Covina, California, helped guide Bethune-Cookman to a 1-1 mark in two matches last weekend versus Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State, respectively. For the weekend, the South Hills High alum carried a .348 hitting percentage to go along with 21 kills on 46 swings.
 
Against JSU, Delahoussaye hit .261 with nine kills, adding three digs and a block assist. She followed two days later with a season-best .435 hitting mark on 12 kills (her third double-digit kills outing of the campaign) to go along with one block assist and a dig in BCU's 3-0 win over the Delta Devils of MVSU.
 
Nya Blair of Grambling State was tabbed SWAC Offensive Player of the Week, with teammate Nyah Ellis picking up Defense Player of the Week accolades. Florida A&M's Camila De La Rosa earned Setter of the Week honors.
 
Bethune-Cookman returns to action Sunday, Oct. 8, with the Wildcats taking part in the first SWAC Cluster event of the season in Houston. The Cluster is being hosted by Texas Southern inside the Health & Physical Education Arena on the campus of TSU.
