ALCORN
Alcorn enters the weekend tied for eighth place in the SWAC, sitting alongside Grambling State at 5-6 in league play, while holding a 9-13 overall record on the season. The Braves have won four of their last six conference games, including a 58-49 victory over Bethune-Cookman in Lorman, Mississippi back on January 23. After missing out on last season's SWAC Tournament with just three wins all season, Nate Kilbert's side has turned a complete 180, and is fighting for one of the eight spots awarded to the annual tournament in Birmingham, Alabama.

  • Alcorn is just 2-9 on the year in games played away from the Davey L. Whitney Complex
  • The Braves are shooting 29.4 percent from three-point range
  • Destiny Brown has a team-leading 56 blocks to go along with a 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game average
  • More than half of Tyginae Wright's made field goals are three-pointers, having connected on 39-of-108

LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE BRAVES
Chanel Wilson scored a team-high 18 points as visiting Bethune-Cookman fell to Alcorn 58-49 at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. Alcorn led for much of the opening quarter until an 11-2 run by the visitors began with a pair of Morgan Beacham free throws, and followed by a Beacham jumper outside the paint. Chanel Wilson connected on a three-pointer for Bethune-Cookman, while Kayla White added a layup off a Braves turnover to put BCU up 12-11.

Bethune-Cookman used six (6) first quarter points from the duo of Wilson and Beacham to lead 14-13 heading into the second quarter. Alcorn would use a steady second quarter run of its own to tie the game at 25-all as the teams headed to their respective locker rooms at the half. Also of note, Alcorn was without the services of starting point guard Cayla Obillo who was out with an illness. The Braves shot just 26.7 percent from the field in the second period, but connected on 4-of-5 shots at the foul line in contrast to BCU's 1-of-6 effort.

In the third quarter, the homestanding Braves rolled off the first eight points of the period behind baskets from Tyginae Wright and Zy'Nyia White. Alcorn led 35-27 with 5:24 left in the third quarter after a jumper from the right elbow courtesy Brown. BCU was restricted to just a 4-of-16 shooting performance from the field in the third quarter, using four points from Beacham. Meanwhile, the Braves were powered by Brown's nine points in the period, while her side shot 42.1 percent overall – despite a 0-for-6 effort from the three-point line.

The Braves held a 44-37 lead after three quarters of play.

Bethune-Cookman used 18 points from Wilson, as she finished 4-of-11 from three-point range. Beacham ended the night with 12 points. Clark powered the Wildcats with 10 rebounds.

JACKSON STATE
Entering the weekend sitting atop the SWAC standings, Jackson State comes to the "Sunshine State" sporting a 13-8 overall record, as well as a 10-1 mark in league play. The Tigers lone loss in SWAC play came at the hands of Prairie View A&M by a 69-65 decision on the road. Since that time, JSU has reeled off seven consecutive wins, including an 82-60 victory over BCU on January 21, in Mississippi.

  • Jackson State is averaging 67.7 points per game, while holding opponents to just 61.2 ppg
  • Ti'lan Boler tops the Tigers in scoring with 12.5 points per game, and shooting 45.2 percent from the field
  • Angel Jackson is one of the SWAC's top shot blockers with 50 under her belt on the season
  • The Tigers are outrebounding their opponents by almost seven (7) boards per game

LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE TIGERS
Despite a 21-point effort from Chanel Wilson, Bethune-Cookman fell to Jackson State by a score of 82-60 inside the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center. Bethune-Cookman would hold a 15-9 lead over the defending conference champions after the first quarter of play. With the score tied at 9-all eight minutes into the period, BCU used a Kayla White three-pointer from the left side combined with a pair of Karianna Woods free throws to end the quarter on a 6-0 Wildcats run.

However, Jackson State would outscore the Cats by a 26-17 margin in the second half in order to take a 35-32 lead into the locker room at the break. JSU shot 18-of-26 from the field across the final two quarters, as the Tigers evened their overall record for the year and moved within a game of first place in the SWAC standings. BCU converted on 12-of-18 shots at the foul line in the game, while the Cats were held to a 0-for-3 effort from beyond the arc in the final quarter.

For the game, the Wildcats outscored the Tigers in fast-break points, 13-7. But it would be the points in the paint that served as the difference on the day, with the host Tigers outscoring BCU by a 44-26 margin in the post area. Jackson State was paced in scoring by five players in double-figures: Ti'lan Boler (20), Angel Jackson (16), Daja Woodard (13), Jariyah Covington (10) and Daphane White (10). The Maroon and Gold was charged in the scoring column by Wilson's 20 points, while she added four rebounds and two steals as well. Kayla White was the only other player in double-figures scoring with 10.
